PROJECT SUMMARY

Identity
Editorial

This redesign reinterprets Rei Kawakubo’s 2017 Met Gala exhibition through a typographically driven approach, translating the tension and contrasts central to her work. Bold type meets delicate elements, polished photography sits alongside sketches, and a black-and-white palette highlights the interplay between extremes.

I designed the exhibition book and chose newsprint as the material to reflect the contrast between high and “low” art — a tension Kawakubo explores throughout the exhibition. The catalog presents her work in a space that is unconventional, questioning, and defined by what exists in between.

The project also extends to promotional materials. Each piece, from catalog to promo, maintains a cohesive identity while capturing the essence of Kawakubo’s experimental approach to fashion and design.
